When we were inside our mother’s womb, 3 things have been set for us by Allah swt: life-deaths, provision (Rizq) and destiny. These three things are God’s secret and keep in Lauhul Mahfuz. In this article, we will try to discuss one of these God’s secrets, which is the rizq.

Someone’s rizq is decided by Allah swt, both good rizq (halal) and the bad one (haram). Then a question arises: “Why do I have to be judged for haram rizq while God has decided it for me?”. The answer is, Allah swt gives human an ability to choose the halal or haram rizq, meanwhile people that are devout will not reach out for haram rizq. When he/she is in despair that person will stay in patience and always try to have halal rizq.


“O’ Mankind! Eat of what is lawful and clean on the earth” Allah (SWT) is alone
the Sustainer of all creation and He has allowed His servants to eat any of the lawful things on earth and avoid unlawful things. (Al-Baqarah 168)


Therefore, the provision of rizq is decided by God, the process to attain it is by going through many options which has been given to human and our decision will be judged by Allah swt. Having said so, we should not be in despair while we live because rizq will come in a right and positive way (to its owner).

To each these as well as those We bestow from the Bounties of your Lord. And the Bounties of your Lord can never be forbidden. (Al – Isra 20)


We often think that rizq presence in the form of material only such as, money, house, car, jewellery, company, land and so on. Rizq indeed is everything that we can benefit from, such as the oxygen (air that we breathe), the need of water, sun shine, forest, mines. Even our intelligence, ability to speak and health and power of our body, all of them are our assets for us to be able to work and it is count as a rizq.

Wealth we have it is not automatically become our rizq, because rizq is everything that the owner can make use of it. A wealth of a rich person may not fully his/her rizq. If the person is stingy, for instance, buying a house but use it for a rent, having a car but take public transportation, using the same clothes and does not do any alms/charity. Therefore his/her wealth increases but when the person dies, only their heir enjoys his/her heritage and does not bring any benefit to the dead person at all.

As a result, our rizq is directed only in 3 ways:
Everything that we eat will become dirt (food, drink, medicine, etc).
Things we use will be broken/destroyed (clothes, shoes, transportations, etc).
Everything we alms will be our savings in after life.

These three ways are not our rizq, but we have been given a trust to find, keep and give it to its real owner (original owner).


Allah swt always gives someone trials. These tests are not only appearing as difficulty or disaster but it can also happen in contentment/happiness.

As previously mentioned that Rizq can also be our trial, especially if it is in a large amount and whether we spend/use it in halal way, pay for alms, help our poor neighbours and relatives, and donate for Islamic lecturer (da’wah) or to go for a Hajj. However, rizq can cause us misfortune if we ignore all positive examples above and later we are classified as people who suffer the loss.

Everyone is going to taste death, and We shall make a trial of you with evil and with good, and to Us you will be returned (Al – Anbiya 35).


Last but not least, it is now our choice for every property we have to use it in Allah’s way. Therefore it will be our rizq as well as savings in after life or else it is remain as a filth and waste. Fortunate people are those who brightly utilize their prosperity.

It is our own choice to decide and make our rizq to be useful or useless.
